DMX Laser Lighting: Control EDM Lasers with MIYA MA4 & Pangolin

How to Control a Laser from a DMX Console

Lighting and DMX laser lighting are a natural fit at today’s events. Increasingly, both are run by the same lighting tech — using a single DMX controller to operate all fixtures, including lasers.
EDM lasers and ILDA laser systems were once limited to nightclubs and outdoor shows, but they now feature in luxury weddings, auto expos, and corporate experiences. With Pangolin software — from LD2000 and LivePro to today’s QuickShow and BEYOND — laser control has become both more intuitive and more powerful.
The Pangolin FB4 laser network interface now enables direct laser control from your lighting console — no need for a PC in the signal chain.

How DMX Works in Laser Applications

DMX512 is a standard 512-channel control signal. Each channel can carry a value from 0–255, allowing precise control of color, brightness, patterns, movement, and more.
For example: An RGB fixture starting on channel 5 will use
  • Channel 5 = Red
  • Channel 6 = Green
  • Channel 7 = Blue
Setting channel 6 to 255 gives you full green output.
DMX laser lighting works the same way — channel values trigger cues or adjust laser behavior through ILDA laser software or onboard memory.

Setting Up Pangolin Software for DMX Control

To run EDM lasers or any ILDA-compatible laser with Pangolin software:
  • Connect the ENTTEC DMX Pro Interface to your PC
  • Open Settings > DMX Settings in QuickShow or BEYOND
  • Select the COM port and click Connect
  • Enable DMX Input
  • Assign DMX channels to trigger cues, control colors, movement, and effects
